Beta Glucans Can Raise the Immune System

It is a known fact that beta glucans can boost the immune system, plus they are under study for his or her use in treating diseases of the immune system and some cancers.

Beta glucans are long chain polysaccharides: unique polyglucoses or complex sugar, and there are several different kinds. Most of the research on them has been carried out within Japan, so it is no coincidence that their main sources are maitake and shiitake mushrooms and AHCC. The latter is brief for Active Hexose Correlated Compound produced by the actual Amino UP Chemical Company in Sapporo by warm water extraction of the products of enzymes and certain fungi. Baker's candida is another very rich source of beta glucans.

They have been discovered to boost the effectiveness of the immune system and also to improve recovery rates from a number of immune conditions ranging from cancer to arthritis. Before discussing what this means in terms of the immune system, it is best to know very well what the immune system is. Most people are acquainted with the term 锟斤拷acquired immune system' without fully understanding what the term indicates. In fact, this is immunity gained through the body remembering previous bacterial infections, and creating the antibodies needed to fight all of them when they reappear.

For instance, resistance to German measles by way of the rubella vaccine is achieved through the immune system understanding what antibodies it designed to destroy the rubella virus introduced into the entire body by the vaccine. The next time exactly the same virus enters the body, the immune system remembers what it did, and helps to create more of the same antibodies. However, the problem with the Obtained Immune System is that it only works when the real virus or germs are known.

When the memory has been triggered by means of a vaccine then the pathogen would have to have been previously identified. If not, then before the immune system can acquire a memory, it might have first to fight the disease itself without the assistance of a vaccine. Many people can die, sometimes hundreds of thousands or even more, before the pathogen can be identified. That is why the Innate Immune System is so important. That fights an illness from scratch, without any previous knowledge of it.

It's the Innate Immune System that beta glucans appear to boost, and the body's capability to beat off problems that would normally promote the immune system in to action. Glucans appear to improve and accelerate the machine into acting more vigorously against intruders. So how do they make that happen? For some reason they are able to improve white cell production and activity. Not only ordinary white bloodstream cells, but the monocytes that produce the macrophages. The word 锟斤拷macrophage' is Greek for 锟斤拷big eater' and their function is to engulf as well as digest invading cells.

Macrophages are the generals of the body's armies, and they can create cytokines that signal for help from the full might of the immune system: the actual T-cells, B-cells and all the other fantastic cells that wander the body's blood as well as lymphatic systems. This massive attack on the enemy can be known as up to help ruin cancer cells, inflamation related diseases and every other condition that the body wants to get rid of.

The reason that beta glucans are therefore effective in improving the immune system is likely to be due to the size of the actual molecules, their drinking water solubility allowing them to travel to all parts of the body and their molecular structure. Those that have been studied the majority are lentinan, from the shiitake mushroom (Lentinus edodes), grifolan from the maitake mushroom (Grifola frondosa), achizphylan in the split gill fungus (Schizophyllum commune) plus some others that have specific properties. The beta-(1,3/1,6)-glucans from bakers yeast have also been found to possess strong modulating effects about the immune system.

The myco-polysaccharides, because fungus derived experiment with glucans are often referred to, not only modulate the defense mechanisms per se, but also appear to have anti-carcinogenic effects, anti-inflammatory properties and other properties that indicate an overall strengthening from the immune properties from the body such as providing protection against diseases of the heart, liver organ, kidneys and teeth, and also helps to lower the levels of cholesterol in the body. Some have shown a very limited positive effect on some of the the signs of HIV, but research is still underway and also the substances can by no means as yet be stated to be an effective treatment for the condition.

Maitake and derivatives have been shown to have a reducing effect on blood glucose in animals, and this anti-diabetic impact is believed to function by inhibiting the metabolism of blood glucose. Other glucan sources have shown significant anti-diabetic properties in creatures. Although they show such properties it is not stated that they present a cure for diabetes since they do not. Further research is ongoing into how they ingredients can be used to help diabetics.

That's what they do, but when should you take them? Experiment with glucan supplements are not intended for use only when you have a significant infection or sickness, but as a safety for times when your body defenses will be at their weakest as well as under strain. In winter, for example, there are numerous colds and flu going around, and anything that boosts the immune system is advantageous. Take a supplement before and during the winter months.

You should also use experiment with glucans when you are at particular risk at any time of the season, such as when you have a disease or prior to hospital admission for any reason. Maybe you are traveling abroad when you are likely to meet bacteria and viruses that are foreign to you and for which you may have little immunity. Then beta glucans are associated with extreme use for you. They are also beneficial after surgery to prevent any side effect of infection. They will not work instantly, but results normally appear within Two days.

The Beta glucans are simply one example of the way in which medical science is actually showing a delicate shift in the way it approaches some forms of illness. Rather than attempting to find relief from every individual form of illness, research is looking at ways of helping the body to assist itself through boosting the immune system.

This makes sense in a culture where increasing air pollution is sparking the formation of more and more genetic mutations of viruses that are becoming increasingly hard to treat individually, as well as bacteria that are becoming more and more resistant to known antibiotics. It is far better to assist the human immune system to defeat these strains itself and so give a more comprehensive means of defeating infection which by simply treating each individually.

Beta Glucan dietary supplements are considered over the counter and available at any health food store in various dosages from three milligrams to as much as 200 milligrams each tablet.
